Iberdrola is going to make a major move into WIND POWER for USA by merging AES with the Spanish Power Wind Company………..
The Spanish company first announced plans to buy Energy East in June last year. The purchase is part of Iberdrola’s larger plan to expand its presence in the U.S. market.
In fact, after the Energy East deal is complete, Iberdrola will have $20 billion worth of assets in the country, the company said. Energy East shareholders, as well as other states in which Energy East operates, already had approved the acquisition before New York regulators voted last week.
In May, the company said it would invest $8 billion in renewable energy in the United States from 2008 to 2010, doubling its wind-energy capacity.
By the end of the first quarter of 2008, Iberdrola’s U.S. wind farms totaled a capacity of 2.4 gigawatts. The company said it planned to increase the capacity to 3.6 gigawatts by the end of this year.

New York Merger to boost WIND in New York
Iberdrola said that it is waiting on the order from the PSC to be delivered and it will move forward from there. “We thank the commission for its time and effort on the matter, and we look forward to reviewing the order to determine next steps,” a spokesperson for Iberdrola said.
If the merger does move forward, the wind energy industry stands to benefit in New York as well as other states where Energy Easy currently operates. The New York PSC said that Iberdrola must commit US $200 million to developing wind in New York. This was an increase from the US $100 million requirement that the PSC was initially considering imposing on the Spanish company. All of the US $200 million would fall under a plan announced by Iberdrola in May 2008 to invest US $8 billion in wind energy

nothing like MISSING 100% of the votes on the Environment!!!! Nice work Mr Concerned Environmentalist………yep, you ALL about ”’change”’ alright!!! There was NO MOOSE BLOOD spilled for this post!
McCain’s record shows he has not be an ambassador for environmental concerns, even as he calls for credits for exploring renewable energy alternatives. In 2007, McCain earned a stunning 0 percent rating for his environmental record – missing every vote related to renewable energy and has an embarrassing 24% lifetime ranking from the League of Conservation Voters. And his energy plan does not specify any federal spending whatsoever on renewable energy, instead favoring a rationing of existing tax credits to provide incentives, whatever that means. it almost makes me PUKE to see Germany getting 40% Power from WIND and yet here in the great BUSH LED stupid state of the great USA, we get <1% from Wind!! Nice Job George!!! No wonder YOU are the lowest rated president in the history of the USA!
As a global leader in wind power, how Germany structures its regulatory framework is keenly watched by law makers and power system operators the world over. No other country has assimilated over 23 GW of wind capacity into its national system. Few countries equal Germany in having geographic regions getting 40% of their electricity from wind energy over periods of six months and more. For those doubters who loudly proclaim that wind energy will never contribute more than insignificant amounts of electricity, these are salutary lessons indeed.

people ask me WHY are you so jazzed UP on WIND POWER????
Answer:: Cause its GROWING by 360% a Year!!!!
Buzz up!
It still accounts for less than 1 percent of the nation’s energy supply, but wind power is the fastest growing part of our energy portfolio — by a long shot. The past decade has seen wind’s energy output increase 361 percent — making the U.S. the fastest growing user of wind power. It ranks third in the world, overall. The increase in wind usage is driven by three forces:
The cheaper cost of investing in new wind turbines, relative to new coal and nuclear, or even natural gas plants, when the cost of future fuel is factored in.
Government subsidies.
Consumer demand. More and more people are signing up to pay extra on their utility bills in order to invest in wind power.
Wind has a long way to go if it is to become a major player, though. At a fraction of 1 percent of total energy produced, it barely measures against coal (49 percent), natural gas (20 percent) and nuclear (19 percent), according to a story in the June 5 Investor’s Business Daily.

In another important development, Zoltek announced that its facility in Guadalajara, Mexico, acquired in September 2007, has now begun to produce test quantities of acrylic fiber precursor raw material. “The plant in Guadalajara is a key building block in rapidly ramping up carbon fibers production over the next several years,” he said. Zoltek expects that the Mexican facility will ultimately have the capacity to produce 60,000 tons of precursor material which, in turn, will support production of more than 27,000 metric tons of carbon fibers — or the equivalent of over $600 million in carbon fiber sales at today’s price level for high-performance carbon fibers. Rumy added, “We have been able to successfully retrofit this plant to produce precursor, validating our belief that it represented a unique opportunity to expeditiously add capacity at substantially lower capital costs than new construction. In addition, with profitable operations and ample financial resources, we believe Zoltek is poised to capitalize on the opportunities that await us.”
