Salzbergen, Germany — To meet growing demand in Europe’s wind power industry, GE Energy has invested more than $100 million in launching its 2.5×1 wind turbine technology and services, and expanding its plant in Salzbergen, Germany.
The Salzbergen plant expansion includes the addition of 28,000 square meters of property, revamping the production hall to prepare for ramped up production of the 2.5xl wind turbines, and adoption of LEAN six sigma manufacturing processes.

In addition to the capacity expansion, GE will increase its European training and service resources and create more than 160 jobs at the facility.

GE has received more than one gigawatt of commitments for its 2.5xl wind turbine over the next 18 months. That represents enough clean, wind-generated electricity to meet the needs of more than one million German households, according to the company.

Europe’s installed wind capacity has increased almost six-fold since 2000, according to the European Wind Energy Association, and GE expects strong growth to continue.

Recent orders for the 2.5xl wind turbines include a contract to supply 12 of the machines for Wind Farm Serra in southern Italy, a project that will take that country a step closer to meeting its goal to become one of the leading producers of wind energy in Europe, said GE. This project also will mark the debut of the GE 2.5xl technology in Italy.

The 2.5xl wind turbines represent GE’s most advanced wind turbine technology in terms of efficiency, reliability and grid connection capabilities, said the company. Since entering the wind business in 2002, GE Energy has become the largest U.S. supplier of wind turbines and one of the largest in the world. To date, more than 11,600 GE-technology wind turbines have been installed or committed for projects worldwide.

well, today I was bottom fishing and started a position into APWR . Looking to add more as the price drops and the way stocks have been last 14 days, the price dropping is almost guaranteed. In 2009, this Chinese company will be the top producer in China and the government of China is going to subsidize the purchase of Wind Turbines from APWR. APWR gets most of its equipment from Germany and will assemble the turbines in China at two new plants, one still under construction. APWR also does ”’Distributed Energy”” for power in China and has contracts in Thailand and Vietnam in addition to China.

today, the stock market SMASHED Solar and Wind to pieces. Most stocks were down around 10% in Solar and Wind. Tomorrow could be another smashing due to congress inaction but who knows for sure????? IF the bailout bill passes, Wind and Solar are going to soar. If the bill does NOT pass, look for another blood bath on Monday almost like Black Monday in 1987.
