CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A trade group is crediting West Virginia as the fastest-growing state for wind energy production.
The American Wind Energy Association says the addition of the 164-megawatt NedPower Mount Storm project in Grant County more than tripled West Virginia’s wind energy capacity. NedPower is jointly owned by Richmond, Va.-based Dominion Resources and Shell WindEnergy Inc.
A second phase of the NedPower project that would add 100 more megawatts of capacity is expected to be completed this year.

The U.S. wind energy industry is forecast to post another record year, marking the fourth year of record growth.
