PORTLAND — Vestas Wind Systems, the world’s largest maker of wind turbines, said Monday it plans to expand its North American headquarters in Portland by increasing its work force in the city from about 350 employees to at least 1,200 and building a roughly 500,000 square-foot office.
The city offered Vestas $12.5 million in incentives in hopes the wind farm developer would expand its Portland operations and build a $250 million facility, Portland Mayor-elect Sam Adams said.
Vestas is expected to add 850 white-collar jobs to its Portland work force under the deal, and build on the city’s south waterfront.
Adams added, however, that the city’s agreement with the Danish wind farm developer is not a done deal. The city and Vestas will have to agree on a specific site in Portland and the state must decide the financial incentives it will provide Vestas, he said.
“This is an agreement with Vestas,” Adams said. “It’s a nonbinding agreement.”

T Boone Pickens spent 53 million recruiting an ”army” of wind and natural gas advocates to promote the Pickens Plan and now what??????? Wasted money it seems as nobody at pickensplan.com seems to know what the current plan is now that T Boone has delayed his Texas Wind Farms. Why would a man spend 53 million of his own money and now ”hide” after being on 60 Minutes, every major news channel, and every major news story/TV Show?????????
The part that irritates me is the bravado spoken by T Boone about “”"I dont need the money”” and its not about the money, its about cleaning the air and economy. Boy, what a crock of fertilizer that truly was now that Oil is at $45 per barrel and nobody cares about natural gas and the energy plan anymore with the current price of gasoline at $1.55 in Denver, Colorado.
Build the wind farms and follow the plan, the price of energy will change almost like corn and soybeans and oil has over the last year. By the time the first wind turbine would be constructed, oil pricing will be much higher guaranteed.

Zoltek laid another goose egg today with results that are just basically HORRIBLE given the uptake in revenues and yet ZERO profits and a big fat loss (AGAIN). Despite revenues going up by 17%, losses continue and Stuart Bush (anaylyst) and Rumy will NOT be sharing a condo over Christmas vacation as Bush basically gave ZOLT the KISS OF DEATH with margin worries and loss of customers across all horizons for 2009. So, I am DONE with Zoltek, you can lie to me once but dont EVER TRY it again. Continue losing money with somebody elses money!!! We all know carbon fiber is the glue that holds wind turbine blades together (ASK SUZLON if you dont beleive me) and makes them stronger for the weight and torque being applied to massive blade sizes for more wind power capture and efficiency. Wind power demand is soaring but yet Zoltek loses money again and again, a broken record playing in St Louis.

I am not even sure where Bangladesh is or what they do or dont do, but word on the street is APWR is or was or could be a potential bidder on Distributed Power Contract for Bangladesh into 2009. Given the Thailand contract management has been talking about, APWR seems to be a global ASIA builder of Power Plants and Distributed Energy for developing countries. Not sure of size or girth of this FISH that APWR is going to land but another distributed contract wont hurt the backlog or finances of APWR down the road. Confidence level is high for APWR landing more and more distributed power contracts in ASIA.
