APWR appears to be extremely undervalued here. Recently the company posted strong Q3 and reaffirmed 2008 and 2009 earnings. CEO Mr. Lu said in the conference that he expected “strong market demand for efficient power production throughout China and Southeast Asia; we do not expect that our business will be negatively impacted by the global economic slowdown.”

The following are highlights of the recent conference:

Revenue Q3 was $85.4 million, up 120% from $38.9 million for the same period of the prior year.
Comprehensive income for Q3 2008 increased to $11.3 million, up 144% from $4.6 million for the same period of the prior year.
In the third quarter of 2008, we secured a new distributed generation contract in China’s Jilin province worth approximately $195 million.
The company signed a binding MOU with National Power Supply Company, a subsidiary of Advance Agro Pacific, for what is expected to become its largest distributed power generation contract to-date – a $300 million contract to develop a 600 MW distributed power system in Thailand’s Chachoengsao province.
A-Power will have an annual capacity to produce over 1,800 MW of wind turbines, and is expected to become one of the leading wind turbine producers in China.

  • Vietnam Joins the Wind Power Movement

Vietnam building its first wind power project. All of southeast asia needs immense power in coming years to grow and modernize and take advantage of tourists and opportunities. Look for APWR to wind power projects in Vietnam and Bangladesh and Thailand in coming years along with India . Management has already announced new contracts coming from Nigeria and Middle East Oil countries desperate for power and clean energy using oil money to power future advances in population and growth.
VietNamNet Bridge – On Tuesday, the authorities of Con Dao Island District, in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau, signed a principle contract on power purchasing with a foreign investor who is building a wind power plant on Con Dao.

The US $20 million Con Dao Wind Power Plant, built by the Switzerland Aerogie Group, is scheduled to become operational in 2010. The 7.5MW plant will run for 30 years with two changes of equipment. This is the first wind power plant built on an island in Vietnam.

The Vice Chairman of the Con Dao People’s Committee, Bui Van Binh, said Con Dao has only one diesel-fueled power plant which can serve the daily use and production of ice for seafood catching. Annually, the government has had to compensate for the losses of many billion dong for this power plant.

It is estimated that Con Dao Island’s need for power will rise by 48% a year and the island will have a serious shortage of power in the near future. The wind power project is praised for meeting the island’s demand for power while it is also an environmentally-friendly work.

According to a comprehensive plan, by 2020 Con Dao Island will have 50,000 residents, ten times more than the current number. The island will become a modern tourism site, which will welcome between 500,000-700,000 visitors per year. As the tourism industry will be the island’s key area in the future, many resorts and tourism industries will be built on the island.

  • China is going to spend 1/5th of its 2007 GDP on infrastructure spending to simulate the economy. Of course, my pick for 2012 is APWR and APWR is going to get a nice BUMP out of this stimulus package over time!!!!

Dec. 10 (Bloomberg) — China Huaneng Group started building the nation’s biggest solar power plant at a cost of 9.1 billion yuan ($1.3 billion) and began operating a wind farm with Hongkong Electric Group.

The company plans to begin operating a 166-megawatt solar project in the southern province of Yunnan in 2010, China Huaneng, the nation’s biggest electricity producer, said in a statement posted on its Web site yesterday. China Huaneng and Hongkong Electric started a 470 million yuan, 48-megawatt wind power plant in the same province.

China, the world’s second-biggest energy consumer, will spend 4 trillion yuan, the equivalent of almost a fifth of its 2007 gross domestic product, on projects including power plants to stimulate economic growth, the State Council said on Nov. 9. China Huaneng will expand its capacity for hydro, wind, solar and other clean fuels to 10,000 megawatts by 2010, the China Electricity Council said in 2006.
