Dont tell me all wind deals are dead or they cannot get financing (BOONE PICKENS), check out Suzlon big wind for their REPower group.
MUMBAI: Suzlon’s subsidiary REpower is likely to bag the world’s largest wind turbine contract of 1250 mw in the next couple of months.
According to sources, REpower’s potential customer — Germany-based utility company RWE — has bought the rights of the largest planned wind farm off the German coast, which could support a total wind energy output of 1250 mw.
Bharat Parekh, analyst with DSP Merrill Lynch, said REpower and RWE had on February 21, 2008, signed a pact providing for the negotiation of framework agreements with a volume of up to 1900 mw involving 250 offshore wind turbine generators (WTG) of the 5M/6M type and approximately 200 further onshore WTGs of the 2 mw class.
RWE is among Europe’s five largest utilities that are active in the power generation and transmission businesses. It also has interests in the sale and trading of electricity and gas, according to the company’s website.
Parekh said, there are three conclusions which could be drawn from the current deal.
First, it will improve the visibility of REpower’s order pipeline; second, it will position REpower as a significant play on offshore with 5/6 mw turbines and third, it will validate Suzlon’s thesis for the REpower acquisition.
