FPL Energy is Renamed NextEra Energy

Florida, United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]
FPL Group announced that it is beginning its next era. The company’s FPL Energy subsidiary is being renamed NextEra Energy Resources to better reflect its clean energy mission and market focus.

“Our new name – NextEra Energy Resources – reflects our focus on clean energy solutions and provides us with a strong brand platform to grow our business now and into the future.”

– Mitch Davidson, President and CEO, NextEra Energy Resources

The company currently has more than 6,300 megawatts (MW) of wind generation in operation. It also is the largest generator of solar thermal power in the world. The company co-owns and operates seven solar plants in California’s Mojave Desert, which collectively form the world’s largest solar site. In all, the company operates 310 MW of solar thermal power.

“Today, with growing concern about global climate change and the need for more domestic sources of energy, it is no longer ‘business as usual’ in our industry. Solutions of the past will not suffice to meet the energy and climate challenges we face today,” said Mitch Davidson, NextEra Energy Resources’s president and CEO. “Our new name – NextEra Energy Resources – reflects our focus on clean energy solutions and provides us with a strong brand platform to grow our business now and into the future.”

NextEra Energy Resources LLC remains an FPL Group Inc. company. During the course of 2009, the NextEra name will be rolled out to various operating company subsidiaries of NextEra Energy Resources.

  • Its extremely hard to qaulify or quantify such predictions but if any of these predictions by CleanTech come true, I will be very happy. One can only predict (guess) based on research and a very lucky SWAG (Scientific Windy A$$ Guess).

China’s Manufacturing Capacity to Reach 12 GW by 2010
China’s 40 wind component manufacturers accounted for 56% of global wind power equipment installed in 2007. The country has a domestic manufacturing capacity of nearly 8 GW, a figure which is expected to reach 12 GW by 2010.

30% of World Energy Demand Met With Wind Power by 2050
Within 12 years wind power could supply 12% of the world’s energy needs, preventing 10 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions in the process. By 2050, this could rise to 30% of the world’s electricity.

Globally, $37 billion was spent on installing an additional 20 GW of wind power capacity in 2007, bringing the world total to 93.8 GW.

  • President elect Obama gave a speech today and promised to build America using new renewables and create green jobs and solar stocks soared while wind stocks got no respect.

I am hoping wind gets some ObamaLove before he takes office since wind power is 10 times more efficient in providing electricity per dollar of investment to solar.

  • If you are long on APWR, you must lower your short term expectations to a more reality oriented position given the world financial crisis and the weather in China. The wind turbine facility is going to open their doors and the ribbon cutting ceremony is Jan 11th, 2009 . However, ramping up production will take a quarter and the reality is that wind turbines wont be rolling out the doors anytime soon given construction in China is almost stopped in the short term due to cold weather. Producing wind turbines when one cannot erect the wind turbines due to weather , makes no economic sense in the short term. Producing enough turbines to meet spring weather demand will make economic sense and the reality is producing turbines for spring construction makes more economic sense.

The long term picture remains intact and Roth Capital expects $1.38 for 2009 earnings with the majority of revenues and profits expected in summer and fall of 2009. A lot can change up and down in the short term and the volatility of APWR remains intact and the up and down price action is expected in the short term with huge gains expected in the spring and summer of 2009. Note to self, do NOT watch the day to day volatility, invest for dollars and trade for pennies if you are nervous nellies. MY OPINION ONLY, your mileage may vary over time! This stock imho will be one of the biggest gainers by end of 2009 out there in the electrical producing/wind turbine business and my target price is $13 for 2009 based on earnings of $1.30 for 2009 with a p/e factor of 10.
