China ”gets it” about going green. We in the USA like to talk alot and debate alot and do nothing. With the increased stimulus spending in China, the Chinese are going to become the wind power center of the world before 2012.

China is also expected to boost its long-term wind requirement to 150 gigawatts, up from the current 100 gigawatt target, by 2020, industry sources said. Jenkins said China could provide $44 billion to $66 billion for wind, solar, plug-in hybrid vehicles and other projects. Fan said China also plans to make sure that many of the orders go to its own firms, Gold Wind and Sinovel.

IF APWR can deliver wind turbines from their production facility on time and on budget, APWR is going to win alot of new wind contracts for 2010 going forward!
Added more APWR today cause one cannot have enough when the Wind Hits the Fan, Wind Happens”!!

  • China Stimulus Plan Working

China’s GDP growth clocked an impressive 7.9% in the second quarter, surpassing economists expectations about the Chinese economic recovery. There is even now talk of a V-shaped recovery, which just a few months ago looked at best like a U-shaped rebound after 6.1% growth in the first quarter, the worst performance in a decade. No doubt the latest economic good news published by China’s National Statistics Bureau on July 15 will lead to yet another flurry of GDP upward revisions of China’s growth path.

HSBC China economist Qu Hongbin wasted no time in upgrading his figures: he reckons the Chinese economy will grow 8.1% this year and GDP expansion will accelerate to 9.5% in 2010. Previously he called for 7.8% and 8.1% in 2009 and 2010. His bullish upgrade for next year suggests the Chinese recovery will be far broader and deeper than most expected, evidence that growth will be sustained not just by the massive $586 billion fiscal stimulus package, but by strong growth in consumer demand.

Jing Ulrich, chairman and managing director of China Equities at JP Morgan (JPM) said in a note to clients today that “Despite the global economic downturn, China’s economic recovery will continue in the second half on the strength of the government’s fiscal stimulus and loose monetary policy. Recovering property investment and buoyant consumer spending suggest that these policies are proving effective at bolstering domestic demand at a time when exports remain structurally fragile.”

for those who wonder WHY I am so LONG APWR, this explains the situation in spades

  • The CEO of AMSC was interviewed on CNBC and said basically the same thing that Thomas Friedman said in that the Chinese are going to kick our butt in global wind turbine production in next five years. He also said the Chinese stimulus spending was ramping for wind power and wind turbines and said exactly the same thing that Friedman said about China in a race to produce wind turbines for export to rest of world and will be worlds leading export wind turbine maker in next five years. This CEO said the same as my research that the Chinese are going to lower the pricing for the US and European standard of charging 2 million per megawatt for current wind contracts and wind farms. What are european and USA manufacturers going to to when China sets the global rate to 1.5 million per megawatt???

APWR , if they can deliver, is going to skyrocket on future wind turbine sales but its a big IF till they can deliver wind turbines to customers. Having the largest factory in China means nothing if your provisioning and manufacturing process is not up to world standards and returns. I can wait for APWR to actually deliver but they are pushing my pateince but given the DPG side is actually potentially ramping and may DOUBLE in 2010, I can definetly give the wind side some more mulligans.

I like AMSC here at this level going forward given that Sinovel is one of three major Chinese customers for wind turbine components for AMSC.
